  • 1 cup cooked long-grain rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 large cabbage leaves (from one head)
  • 1 (14 oz) can tinned tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Blanch cabbage leaves in boiling water for about 2 minutes until softened. Remove and cool.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place two tablespoons of filling at the base. Roll tightly while tucking in the sides.
  4. In a saucepan, heat tomato sauce with sugar until well mixed.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread some sauce in a baking dish; arrange rolls seam-side down and cover with remaining sauce.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes or until beef is fully cooked.
