Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top and let it froth for about 5 minutes.
- Gradually add flour and salt while mixing until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl covered with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté onions in olive oil until translucent. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, and Italian herbs; simmer for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Grease a deep-dish pan with olive oil.
- Roll out dough to fit the pan; press into the bottom and up the sides. Layer mozzarella cheese followed by desired toppings and pour sauce over everything.
