  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups whole milk mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup pepperoni slices (or your choice of toppings)
  • Optional: sautéed vegetables (bell peppers, mushrooms)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top and let it froth for about 5 minutes.
  2. Gradually add flour and salt while mixing until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl covered with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté onions in olive oil until translucent. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, and Italian herbs; simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Grease a deep-dish pan with olive oil.
  5. Roll out dough to fit the pan; press into the bottom and up the sides. Layer mozzarella cheese followed by desired toppings and pour sauce over everything.
  6. Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool slightly before slicing.
